About the Position:

The Employment Navigator works closely with local employers to promote the hiring of re-entry job seekers by conducting outreach to employers and businesses and providing employment preparation, job development, and job placement services to participants.  Provides support and career guidance services to these individuals by enrolling, assessing, coaching, providing advocacy, and placing participants in services

Salary Range: $22/hr-$24/hr

What You Will Do:

  • Provide Case Management, job development and job placement to students.
  • Conduct initial screening, intake, and assessments for all potential HIRE students.
  • Prepare, review, and update Individual Development Plans (IDP) for students assigned to caseload.
  • Develop and monitor the participant's progress relative to their IDP through all phases of the program.
  • Document all progress and all services provided in the participants' files (employment effort/status, case conference results, and referral services).
  • Provide support and coaching to participants as they develop job readiness skills: resumes, job search, and interviewing skills. Motivates and inspires participants to set and achieve employment goals.
  • Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies, as necessary.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with employers, community colleges and community-based organizations. 
  • Maintain comprehensive case records and accurate statistical information for participants and services, including all the required elements of the IDP.
  • Provide intake screening for participants that shall include right to work status.
  • Conduct outreach to employers and coordinate recruitment / hiring events.
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and training as requested by the supervisor.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field; OR High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years’ experience working with criminal justice or related population. 
  • Experience with counseling justice involved individuals in a prison or similar setting preferred.
  • Offender Mentorship and Conflict Resolution Certification preferred.
  • Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of long-term incarceration; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of incarceration.
  • Recognition of the importance of individual differences created by personalities, cultures, lifestyles, social networks, and other factors that influence behavior.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks with multiple deadlines. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in the community and within the organization.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participant.
  • Participate in community-building activities as appropriate to the position.
  • Protect program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
