About the Position:

The Placement Specialist is the direct provider of placement and/or casework services to students/participants, including intake, initial assessment, and initial placement in community-based services, transportation, and interfacing with the Justice, Care, and Opportunities, Department (JCOD), Criminal Justice Partners, Probation Officers, and other Specialized Treatment for Optimized Program (STOP) faculty. This will include initial screening, tracking, and referral of prospective participants into JCOD STOP and possible referral to local County funded services. Most of these activities will include, but not be limited to: face-to-face activities with participants, county officials, state officials, healthcare entities, and JCOD STOP subcontracted Community Based Providers (CBPs).

What You Will Do:

  • Provide interactive and placement coordination services for the JCOD STOP students/participants.
  • Develop Placement and transportation planning for JCOD STOP participants.
  • The ability to always provide comprehensive quality customer service to all parties as needed.
  • Make placement data/billing/profile related entries in participant files.
  • Keep Agent of Record (AOR) or Probation Officer of record, or Court Designee apprised of participant’s progress.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships evidenced by effective communication with JCOD STOP Associate Director, and subcontracted CBP programs.
  • Maintain comprehensive case records and accurate statistical information for JCOD Stop participants and services.
  • Ensure results of initial referrals and screenings are appropriately utilized for placement coordination.
  • Ensure results of evidence-based assessments are appropriately utilized for placement coordination.
  • Assist in the management of ongoing transfer(s) between CBP’s when needed.
  • Assist in the management of status notifications, Incident Reporting, and other documentation from the CBP’s when needed.
  • Provide face-to-face systems navigation and/or referral resources assistance when needed.
  • Placement Specialists may be asked to perform case manager, outreach specialist, or transportation related duties as needed for the operational prudence of the project. 
  • Additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent AND Experience working in substance abuse program(s) and/or with criminal justice offenders and/or experience in the provision of case management services.
  • Plus: One (1) year of experience working with criminal justice populations and/or work as an enrollment coordinator for a behavioral health program. Current Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Certification approved by the State of California Department of Healthcare Services (DHCS).
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and be eligible for Amity vehicle insurance.
  • Operational knowledge and proficiency with MS-Word, Excel, and basic data entry systems.
  • Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the

Behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.

  • Recognition of the importance of individual differences created by personalities, cultures,

lifestyles, social networks, and other factors that influence behavior. Demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge to treatment/placement practices.

  • Understand an array of treatment modalities available to participants (i.e., Housing, Licensed Substance Use Disorder Treatment, Outpatient, etc.), and maintain a current awareness of availability for placement within each treatment paradigm.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper attitudes and techniques towards program participants.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in the community and within the organization.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
